From our bench

Plugging into an ordinary wall outlet, this compact stick welder handles quick repairs on lawn tractor frames and iron garden gates. The inverter board keeps the current steady while the pistol handle lets you point the rod with one hand. It turns off on its own if the heat builds up too high.

Striking the arc

A built-in hot start kicks current up right as the rod touches steel, helping the arc catch cleanly. If you push the tip too hard and freeze the electrode to the workpiece, the anti-stick circuit cuts power so you can twist the rod loose.

Adjusting the current

The rear dial turns the welding current up or down to match your rod choice and plate thickness. It runs common rod coatings over mild steel and iron brackets. An internal sensor cuts off the flow when the electronics need time to cool.

What rides along

Inside the carton you find a ground clamp with its cable, a wire chipping brush for knocking slag off fresh beads, and a few starter rods. The pack gives you enough to test the arc on a piece of scrap before you tackle the broken gate.

Bring a proper helmet

We include a basic handheld face shield to get the box open, but holding a dark pane with your off hand gets old fast. A real auto-darkening welding helmet from your own shelf makes tracking your seam far easier while both hands stay occupied.
